“co-thrive” (verb)
The state in which a human community and the ecosystem in which it lies simultaneously thrive.
CoThrive is a project of the Jackson, WY-based Charture Institute. Its purpose is to help human communities develop tools which will allow them and the ecosystems in which they lie to simultaneously thrive.
The fundamental premise underlying CoThirve is that, in the 250 years since the start of the Industrial Revolution, the Tetons/Yellowstone region of northwest Wyoming is the only place on Earth to have developed an advanced post-agrarian economy while maintaining a fundamentally intact and fully-functioning ecosystem.
250 years. The entire planet. One place.
I hope I’m wrong about this, and if you know of another candidate, please let me know by clicking here.
Even if I am wrong, though, the fundamental issue remains: Over the past 250 years, humans have thrived but Earth’s ecosystem has not.
This imbalance cannot continue, for ultimately a human community can be no healthier than the ecosystem in which it lies.
Through a monthly blog, research, speaking, and other writing and outreach, CoThrive’s mission is to help humans everywhere learn what it will take for Earth and its people to co-thrive for millennia to come.
